HDPE Narrow Boat Configurator

STEP 1: Download our cost calculator spreadsheet here

After you've filled in and emailed the spreadsheet or configurator form below, please call us on 07411491761, if you're a serious buyer. We will only quote once we've received a call from you so we can run through and confirm all of your choices.

STEP 2: Launch Google Docs here and open the downloaded file

Please use this spreadsheet to play around with the options. Theres a drop down list column where you can select all the different options. Please note that you will need to download and email the spreadsheet to us completed, to get a full quote. We've been inundated with configurator forms (configurator form below), however we've found it to be an inaccurate way to quote as our configurator doesn't show a live calculation of costs yet. By filling out our spreadsheet we'll know you're a serious buyer and it will simplify the quote process. Once we've received your spreadsheet we'll book in a call to confirm your options. It's useful because you can stay within budget by changing options, and you can see the price change immediately. If you'd prefer to use our configurator, please call us to run through everything with you so we can get your quote right the first time. Please note we have other options available on request such as recycled fit outs. Recycled fit outs are where we find used kitchens, wood, furniture etc, and restore/paint them. These builds come in much cheaper but are difficult to quote for so we'd need to chat on the phone before we can quote. We've sourced some beautiful used items for some of our builds which look as good if not better than brand new because of the character they bring. Check out our previous builds here where you can see some of examples.

What comes with a shell?

As standard, our shells come with over 50 steel reinforcement box section lengths in the floor and on the sides below the gunnel, they're encased in HDPE so the steel will never corrode. The HDPE that encases the steel is welded to the HDPE hull. There's built in redundancy too so even in the extremely unlikely outer skin were to be punctured, she'd still float thanks to her 30 water tight concrete reinforced chambers, which are capped off unlike the Titanics. Sides are 15mm, bottom is 20mm, and the top is made from 50mm honeycomb HDPE which has sealed air pockets which increase the insulation value dramatically. Shells also come with rebar reinforced concrete ballast and a welded in HDPE water tank. All other options can be added on in the form below. Please fill out the whole form as best as you can, any incomplete fields will make it more difficult for us to quote and will slow down the process down.

Pick your length and width

Size *Pick a length and width. Divide the cost of the length of boat you'd like by 7, then add on that number on. For example 57ft is £28,500, divided by 7 equals £4,071, add these numbers together to get the cost of each foot you want to go wider)

Stern Style

Choose your stern. Stern Style doesn't come at an additional cost as this is included with your shell cost:
Cruiser (Big open plan deck)
Semi Trad (Partly open but with sides to keep the worst of the weather at bay as you're cruising)
Traditional (This is the smallest back deck option with 2-3 feet of space allowing for more internal space)
Stern seating
Bench Seats. Good for Cruiser and Semi Trad (+£200-£300)
2x stools. Perfect for Trad sterns so you can sit as you steer (+£100-£200)

Insulation Options

Spray foam is the best insulation for narrow boats because it fills every gap allowing for no air gaps which can create moisture. You can calculate the cost based on the living space, usually 10%-20% smaller than the overall length.

Floor Options

Floorboards. These are the sheets of plywood that act as a base for the flooring.
18mm Marine Hardwood Plywood (+£17 per foot) The best option for longevity.
18mm Exterior Hardwood Plywood (+£12 per foot) The second best option for longevity.

Engine

We highly recommend outboard engines because they're more fuel efficient, more enironmentally friendly as they don't emit the same kind of harmful particles that diesel engines produce, far easier to install and much easier to maintain. Outboards have an alternator like a diesel engine so you can still charge your batteries while cruising. We've designed our boats so that the outboard fits under the decking and can be accessed through a hatch on the top. This reduces noise and makes the outboard almost impossible to steal. It's also hidden under the deck so any would be thieves wouldnt even know it's there. The only downside to an outboard is that petrol isn't readily available at chandlerys, so you'll need to make a trip to the local petrol station. We can supply you with a 55 litre petrol carrying trolley for £250.

Hull protection

As standard our hulls come with a rubber 50mm fender, and 2 stainless steel strips which all wrap around the entirity of the boat. For added protection, fenders are a must!

Deck material

As standard our shells come with black HDPE as the deck, however it isn't slip resistant so either composite decking needs to be bolted to the deck, or you can have HDPE checkerplate welded in.
HDPE comes in grey checkerplate which can be welded to the hull so it becomes part of the structure (+£250)
Composite decking (+£700-£1200)
No decking needed I'll fit my own

Toilet

Pump Out Toilet With Tank. Midland chandlers have an excellent range of pump out toilets. Pump out systems are expensive to have pumped out and their can be an odour if left for too long between pump outs, but they're great for if you're out crusing the cut often, and don't have many disposal points on your route (+£500-£1200)
Our Recommendation: Thetford Porta Potti 565E Excellence Electric Flush Premium Chemical Toilet (+£220)
NomadicArk Portable Toilet. With a built-in trolley and wheels (+£150)
Trelino Evo S Composting toilet (+£320)
Thetford C223CS Cassette Toilet. This cassette toilet is most similar to a normal toilet in the cassette toilet category whilst being good value for money (+£410)
None of the above or I want to fit my own

Electrical Options

Batteries

Generally 200ah of lithium batteries is a good amount of power for 2 people living aboard. Lithium has a lifespan of 7-10 years, whereas normal deep cycle batteries are anything from 2 -5 years depending on usage:
1: Our Reccomendation: Renogy Core-12V 24V 48V 200Ah Deep Cycle Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery (+£650)
2: Renogy 12V 200Ah Pro Deep Cycle Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery w/Bluetooth & Self-heating Function (+£820)
3: Renogy Core - 12V 300Ah Core Series Deep Cycle Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery w/Self-Heating (+920)
4: Budget Option: 12v 260ah Deep Cycle Leisure Battery (+£330)
None of the above or I'd like to fit my own

Wiring, fuses & breakers

We recommend all of the following options:

Lights

12v Lights & 240v lights. Includes wiring

Inverter, charger & solar

High End Option: 9mm Birch Plywood (+£180

LPG Bolier

Boilers come with necessary plumbing and gas fittings.
Recommended Option: Ariston NEXT EVO X 11L Gas Water Heater including Vertical Flue Kit. We've been using these boilers for years and they dont miss a beat! (+£700)
Budget Option: Innovita Primo 11 LPG Gas Water Heater with Vertical Flue. These are simple reliable boilers great if you're on a budget. (+£500)
No thanks I want to install my own

Log Burner

Log Burners come with fire resistant board lined and tiled hearths
Restored 5kw Log Burner with new Flue (+600-£800)
New 5kw Log Burner and Flue (+£700-£900)
None of the above or I want to install my own

Other heating options

An LPG boiler will heat your hot water and a log burner with heat activated fans will keep your boat warm and is by far the most affordable combination. However there are other options, but they're a lot more expensive. Cheaper diesel heaters are available but we wouldnt be able to fit them as everything on our boats must be CE approved.

Heating. We think that the best heating for a boat is a log burner but there are a few other options. The two listed below are complete solutions that will heat your boat and give you hot water on demand.

Gas options

Pumps

You'll need a whale gulper, 1 fresh water pump and 2 bilge pumps as a minimum.
